Group Exercise

Group exercise is all about working out smarter and having fun while you're at it. With more than 50 energizing and engaging classes to choose from, our programs are taught by nationally accredited instructors with top-of-the-line equipment.

Swimming

Redwood Shores features two 25-yard lap pools, two recreational pools, an outdoor spa, and an all-new Splash Landing waterpark and offers a full range of swim programs for people of all ages and abilities. All pools are heated and beautifully designed and staffed with our experienced professional coaches and trainers, all of whom are Red Cross–certified in water safety.

Michael Phelps Swimming

The Bay Club Company is the only authorized provider of Michael Phelps Swimming in the Bay Area, and all of our instructors are trained in this method. So whether you take lessons or take part in any of our aquatics programs, you’re assured of the best training possible.  

The Michael Phelps Swimming method is founded on the belief that swim instruction should be about more than just motor skills (i.e., kicking, stroking, rhythmic breathing). Swimmers also need to understand the properties of water—the hows and whys of swimming—thereby developing the whole athlete. In addition to learning personal safety, stroke technique, and rescue skills, our participants also learn how we float and achieve balance in the water, why we breathe rhythmically and need to have certain body positions, and why we need to feel the water. But it's not all work! We've taken our time in selecting the most competent instructors, who we then train to introduce these concepts in fun and imaginative ways!

Tennis

Our first-class tennis program will help you nurture a life-long love for the sport, thanks to our nine indoor and outdoor championship tennis courts, year-round coaching from the Bay Area’s finest tennis professionals, plus events and league play for beginning through advanced-level players.

Bay Club Redwood Shores was recognized as the "2008 Facility of the Year" by USPTA NorCal (United States Professional Tennis Association), as well as the internationally recognized "Private Facility of the Year" award for 2009. All of our six tennis professionals are members of the USPTA and Professional Tennis Registry.

Squash

Whether you're a seasoned player or picking up the racket for the first time, we have a full range of top-notch squash programs for players of all ages and abilities at our five glass-backed courts.

First-time squash players may borrow racquets from Bay Club Redwood Shores' Squash Department. Please let us know ahead of time to ensure a racquet is available for you. The Squash Department also offers restringing service and a wide selection of strings, and also sells all squash equipment: shoes, racquets, eyewear, balls and more. We will be happy to advise on choice of equipment. 

We’re proud to have such an accomplished and accessible staff of squash pros at Bay Club Redwood Shores. All are available for private lessons, small group training, and group clinics.

Director of Squash Kim Clearkin is a US Masters Champion and has represented the USA. She is joined by Assistant Pros Doug Compton, a former Bates College Squash Captain; Frank Schmidt, who has also represented the USA on several occasions; and Steven Friedland, a current Bay Club Redwood Shores club champion.

Reservations

To reserve a court, call the Reception Desk at 650.593.4900. Club members may also make online reservations at any time. Reservations are for 60 minutes each and begin at 6:00 am daily. You may book a court up to three days in advance, beginning at 7:00 am. We allow one squash court reservation per member, per day.

Members with reservations must check in at the Reception Desk before taking their court. Any cancellations must be made by 8:00 pm the previous day, or a cancellation fee of $25 will be charged to your account. No-shows are also charged $25.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are the most efficient way to improve your game, master the basics, or start your squash career. Our squash pros can help you improve the technical, physical, and mental aspects of your game. We can also design lessons around your specific goals and interests.

A typical squash lesson includes a skills assessment and guidance on improving your technique and honing your match strategy. Lessons are either 30 or 45 minutes in length and are available for members of all ages and skill levels. You may schedule a lesson anytime. Note: Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance or your account will be charged.

Group Clinics

If you prefer to learn in a group environment, sign up for a squash clinic. 

If you have never played squash before, you're welcome to participate in a complimentary clinic that will introduce you to the game of squash. Beginner clinics are held every month and will be run by one of our teams of squash professionals. After the clinic, players will be ready to participate in the many events that constitute the squash program here at Bay Club Redwood Shores.

Children will also be entitled to join in one regular Saturday morning PacBuster class at no cost. We start our juniors at 4–5 yrs old at 9:00 am and older children start at 9:45 am.

We also hold intermediate and advanced clinics to cater to more experienced players.

Stroke Clinics 

These sessions will concentrate on the basics, ensuring good technique to improve your squash game. Meet other players of a similar standard in an informal, fun environment taught by our professionals, Doug Compton and Kim Clearkin.

Women's Clinic

Women players of all levels are invited to join in this fun clinic hosted on Sundays, from 10:00 am–noon. 

Cost: $10 for members, $15 for non-members

All Levels Clinic

Hosted on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:00 am–noon

Cost: $25 per session for member; $30 per session for non-members. 

Packages: $80 per month, available to members only.

SOCIAL EVENTS

Squash at Bay Club Redwood Shores is a social activity. We hold regular events where you can connect with your fellow players, on the court and over a beverage or two.

Regular intra-club events are also held at the weekend such as team and handicap tournaments. Contact our Squash Department to find out what’s happening next.

Squash Ladder 

Squash Ladder is the easiest way to meet people at your skill level. The ladder is run on a monthly basis and players may challenge up to five places above them. The winner of the challenge takes the place of the loser. The player that plays the most challenges in a month will receive a free lesson from an instructor of their choice.

Players who have not entered the ladder from the start may enter at the beginning of any league session by contacting any of the squash pros. Club members can also record match results online.

Round Robins

Bay Club Redwood Shores hosts a free all-club Round Robin on a Monday evening. This is for all players of any level and age and is an opportunity to play in a fun and social environment. Doug Compton oversees the event 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm.

Pilates & Beyond

Designed to counteract the muscle imbalances and resulting injuries and chronic back pain that often develop with conventional workouts, Pilates conditions your entire body and promotes balanced musculature, flexibility, and agility.

Pilates Prime

Pilates Prime is an innovative new membership that will give you unlimited access to our Pilates Allegro classes at a low rate of $109 per month. What’s more, as a Pilates Prime member, you’ll also receive special discounted rates on private studio instruction. 

Our goal is to offer a comprehensive and affordable Pilates program that will provide you the opportunity to experience a range of instruction, while you safely and effectively progress your Pilates practice. With this membership, you’ll have the ability to attend any of the Allegro classes on the schedule. And class sign-ups can be made up to three days in advance at the Reception Desk, or online. Additionally, our Prime Guaranteed membership option gives you the ability to pre-book your class times prior to the beginning of each month for only $149 per month.

Yoga

From Vinyasa to Hatha, find your balance with a variety of yoga classes taught by our highly qualified teachers. Enjoy unlimited classes at no additional cost, so you can find the style that best suits you. You can also deepen your practice by combining weekly classes with private instruction and specialty yoga workshops.

Group Cycling

With more than 28 classes per week offered throughout the day, join us for an exhilarating workout in the comfort of our studio on the top-rated Keiser M3 Indoor Cycle. Keiser bikes not only calculate watts, RPM, distance and calorie expenditure, but also allow you to fine tune the intensity of your workout.

Basketball & Gym Sports

Get together for a friendly game of basketball on our NCAA-size basketball court or one of our side baskets for full- and half-court play. All courts are equipped with glass backboards and an electronic scoreboard, and are available for pickup games, basketball camps and private lessons.

Our basketball leagues use college rules and include scorekeepers, referees, and weekly statistics. 

Basketball Pick-up/Open Play Schedule

Weekdays: 11:30 am–1:00 pm & 4:30–6:30 pm

Weekends: 7:30 am–9:30 am

Volleyball is also scheduled in the gymnasium on a seasonal basis.

Please note that gym availability is subject to change weekly. 

Gym Etiquette

  • The gymnasium is a family facility designed to be a center of fun, friendly competition and good sportsmanship. Members and guests are expected to conduct themselves accordingly. Violence and/or profane language will not be tolerated.
  • All players must be dressed and ready for play wearing non-marking soled shoes.
  • Each basketball team may have a maximum of four players if the game is played cross-court. In full-court play, teams may have five players.
  • When players are waiting, basketball games will be played to a maximum of 21 points (points are scored in 2's and 3's).
  • Players are responsible for calling their own fouls.
  • In a basketball game, any disputes over infractions will be settled by the offended player shooting one shot from the top of the key. Possession is awarded if the shot is made.
  • Players will be responsible for any damage to the facility or abusive use of the equipment.
  • For everyone's safety, children under 14 using the gym must be supervised by a parent/guardian or be enrolled in a Bay Club–supervised program.
  • Please keep all food and beverages out of the gym. A water fountain is located nearby in the group exercise foyer.
